Course: Dessert
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 18 minutes
Servings: 18

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups softened (I use salted) butter (3 sticks)
  • 1 cup plus 2 T granulated sugar
  • 1 cup plus 2 T brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 T vanilla
  • 3 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 T baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts optional

Instructions

  • Prepare a 17x12 inch cookie sheet by spraying with cooking spray. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer until creamy and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating in between, then add the vanilla, flour, salt, and baking soda, mixing well. The batter will feel wetter than a standard cookie dough.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts if using).
  • Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake for 17-18 minutes or until golden brown. These are easier to cut while warm.

These are hands the best chocolate chip cookie bars! My husband is over a youth group and we make these about once a month for him to bring. The best part is they’re done in 30 mins from start of mixing ingredients to fully baked.

My family and friends love this recipe! It is simple and quick yet provides a ton of flavor. So addicting! Be careful!

  5. Is the T for tablespoon or teaspoon? I’m assuming tablespoon but 1/2 a tablespoon of baking soda is odd so just checking. Thanks!

    1. Hi Jen, it is 1/2 Tablespoon. It’s a lot of dough so it needs a lot of baking soda! Hope you love this recipe!

This is my favorite recipe to make for a crowd! So easy and everyone always loves it. I made it for a BBQ this weekend and came home with only a small corner. Everyone was raving about it! It’s the best!

These are my go to when I have no idea how many people I need to feed and I just don’t have time to try to make something new and fancy. Almost every time I make them I have people ask me for the recipe. They’re so good and they’re super easy to make. They taste rich and buttery and so so good.

  9. Hi Amber, I love these cookie bars! I was just wondering if you think it would work if I browned the butter?
    Thank you!!

    1. Hi Christine, yes this would be delicious with browned butter. Brown it then let it cool to room temperature. You may want to do an extra tablespoon or two because browning the butter reduces the amount.
