Scones!
It's amazing how such simple ingredients can create something so mouth-watering! And when it comes to toppings - the sky's the limit!

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 T yeast (I use active dry yeast, but this recipe works with quick/instant yeast too)
- 1 T sugar
- 1 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 tsp salt
- 4-5 cups flour
Instructions
- In a large bowl or mixer, add warm water, yeast, and sugar. Give it a brief mix then cover with a lid or a clean dish towel and let the yeast “poof” (dissolve) for about 10 minutes.
- Add the milk, salt, and mix together. Add the flour and mix one cup at a time, mixing/kneading well in between each addition of flour. Be careful not to add too much flour. There will be enough flour when the dough pulls away from the bowl and is elastic and slightly tacky. Knead for 5 minutes in a mixer or 10 minutes by hand.
- Cover and let rise for 15-30 minutes. Roll dough into a large flat rectangle and cut into 3-inch squares using a pizza cutter.
- In a frying pan, heat up some oil (can use avocado oil, coconut oil, or vegetable oil) and insert a wooden spoon into the oil. When the oil bubbles against the wooden spoon, you know the oil is hot enough. Add the dough into the frying pan and fry on each side until it is golden brown. I used to use Rhodes Rolls to make my scones but after trying this recipe we can’t go back! So yummy with some chili, cheese, lettuce, onion and ketchup! Yum! Kids love them with honey and the hubby and I like to make icing to dip them in.
Yum! I love that these are so versatile for you!
Could you make these with sourdough?
Yes totally! I would add 2 cups of bubbly and active sourdough starter in place of the yeast. You may need to add extra flour to make the dough soft and pliable but not sticky. I would also add an extra teaspoon of salt. You will probably have to let them rise for around 2 hours. Let me know how it goes for you!
Hiiii amber we love you
Hi Katie! Thank you <3
I make these quite often and love this recipe! I am wondering if you have ever made the dough, portioned it , and then frozen the portions to use at a later time? Would it require any adjustments to the ingredients? Would you let the dough rise before portioning it?
Hi Amy! I actually can’t speak to specific directions because I haven’t ever done it. BUT, if I were to try freezing the dough? I would separate into portions first, form into balls, flash freeze for an hour or so in a flat cookie sheet, then transfer the semi-frozen dough balls to an airtight bag or airtight container to continue freezing.
