Dream lunch:
*soft, Everything Bagel
*avocado
*red onion
*plenty of turkey
*sweet, vine-ripened tomato slices
*thinly sliced cucumbers for crunch
*alfalfa sprouts
*cream cheese
That’s all! 💁♀️
I genuinely love this bagel sandwich, and it brings me JOY! Even though some people gasp at how many carbs this lunch may hold- It wouldn’t be nearly as good without the bagel! To get more enjoyment out of my food, I try to:
1- build up an appetite
2- sit down
3- turn off and put away all screens
4- savor each bite and even close my eyes to try and pay attention to the taste, texture, and smell
I find that when I really try to fully ENJOY my food, I get more of a ‘dopamine’ hit- and I am more easily satisfied. I try not to eat when I am driving or standing up because I want to be really present and mindful during the eating experience. I don’t want to get only half of the enjoyment of eating because I am multi-tasking (eating and driving, for example) it as if eating is a chore on my to-do list. Food is therapy, and it’s medicinal in the sense that as we go throughout all the “work” we have (get?) to do, then we get to take a break, a deep breath, close our eyes and savor something delicious that uplifts our spirits.
I have a strong aversion to any type of diet food, and instead of counting calories or macro’s I try and focus on
1- listening to my body, and
2- eating only the most enjoyable foods.
Really and truly, I believe that food is meant to be enjoyed. Despite our culture’s loud messages about how food is only fuel- I don’t totally agree. The way we feel about what we eat and how much we enjoy it, I believe, has got to be proportional to how our bodies assimilate what we eat.
