Ingredients
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla optional
- 1/4 cup butter, to melt in the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425° F.
- In a blender, combine the eggs, flour, milk, salt, and vanilla.
- Blend well, and if any bits of flour stick to the side of the pan, scrape them down with a spatula and blend again.
- Take a 9x13 glass baking dish and add the butter. Put it into the oven as it preheats, but keep a close eye on it, and pull it out when the butter has melted.
- Pour the batter into the hot baking dish and return to the oven for a final time.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pancake has lifted and has turned golden brown.
- Remove from oven, cut, dust with powdered sugar, or serve with pure maple syrup, or with fresh berries.

Made these tonight. Such a yummy, fool-proof, quick and easy meal!

Hey Brooke,
Thanks for taking timing to say you like these! Glad they work so great for you!
Hi – could you make this batter the night before and refrigerate it for the morning?
Author
Hi Eileen. Good question! I haven’t ever done that, but I imagine that it would work out just fine! I would just make sure to give it one quick mix before you pour it into the pan.
I grew up with this and haven’t thought about it in years. Thanks for a reliable yummy nostalgic recipe!
These are delicious! In the past I’ve used a recipe that required nearly twice as much butter. This one was just as good and my family loved it!
Thanks Jessica! This is one of our family’s favorites as well!
This is a family favorite!
Thank you so much Lisa!
CAUTION BAKING WITH GLASS BAKEWARE: I had baked this German pancake.many times using a Pyrex glass 9×13 baking pan with success. However, the last time I baked this in a glass baking pan, I decided to transfer.the German pancake from oven to a granite countertop. A few seconds later, the entire glass dish shattered in pieces. Glass pieces and glass shards were everywhere. The pancake was no longer edible and covered with glass. It took my husband 2 hrs. to clean up because glass shards were all over the kitchen floor as well as the countertop and sink. NEVER
TRANSFER ANY GLASS BAKING DISH DIRECTLY FROM OVEN TO A BARE COUNTERTOP BECAUSE OF THERMAL.SHOCK.
Because Pyrex saw my stories about this incident, Pyrex took this matter seriously and replaced my glass baking pan with no charge. I am still traumatized by this incident, so I have not baked another German pancake in a glass baking dish since. I now bake the German Pancake using an oven-proof ceramic baking dish.
Wow that is so scary. I am so sorry that happened to you!
I make these all the time! Great recipe and a fast dinner!
Thanks so much Jenny!
